The lovely team at Midnight Sea invited us to collaborate on a fun project that took us into exciting creative territory with Rive.
They asked to refine the design of 011y — a new AI assistant — and bring them to life in a way that's interactive, expressive, and web-friendly.

CASE STUDY
Character Design
O11y needed to feel like a helper you actually want around. The design brief was expressive and web-friendly, so the character had to carry personality through shape and form alone. The goal was something immediately readable — warm enough to feel approachable, distinct enough to feel like it belongs to Observe's world.
Motion System
With a character like O11y, stillness wasn't an option. A full motion system was built around their personality — idle states, reactions, transitions — each one considered to feel coherent rather than decorative. The animation gives O11y a sense of life that static design simply couldn't.
Interaction
To bring it into the product, I built the mascot in Rive, making it fully responsive and interactive. The character reacts in real time, shifting and transforming with the user's input. Not just how it looked — but how it felt to use.
